At The Ortho Remedy Center for Prosthetic Excellence the future is NOW!

With traditional (mechanical) prosthetic knee joints, people have to think (and sometimes worry) about each step they take. The Otto Bock C-Leg® was designed to give above-knee amputees maximum independence with confidence. It represents a quantum leap in prosthetics and a vital improvement over all other prosthetic knees.

The prosthetist fitting the C-Leg® must have special training in order to become certified to program and fit the prosthesis, but it’s so easy to use, even a child can operate it—all the user needs to do is keep the C-Leg®’s battery charged and walk!

Using special PC-compatible software, this revolutionary knee joint is finely tuned to the individual’s natural gait by The Ortho Remedy prosthetist.

Features of the Otto Bock C-Leg® System

The microprocessor monitors and adapts 50 times per second, adapting to every move—not just every step—the user makes.

Together, the microprocessor and hydraulic mechanism automatically adjust the knee’s function to provide stability—the moment before it is needed. Stance resistance is present until the microprocessor senses that the user is biomechanically safe. The knee angle sensor provides data for dynamic control of swing phase based on speed and whether the user slows down or speeds up. A force sensor in the shin uses toe loading data to determine when it is safe and efficient to shut off stance-phase stability

What this all means is that with the C-Leg®, the above-knee amputee can move more freely in everyday situations—speeding up or slowing down—as they stride along flat terrain. The step-over-step gait allows the above-knee amputee to step down from a vehicle, walk down ramps, step off curbs, or go up and down stairs.

A second mode of function allows the user to select predetermined adjustments for a second activity, such as biking, inline skating, cross-country skiing, or even just standing in place for long periods of time.
