The Ortho Remedy Story and Mission

The Ortho Remedy was founded in 1976 by Thomas G. Valenti, a certified member of the American Board for Certification and the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification. Tom is also licensed in the State of NJ as a prosthetic and orthotic clinician.

The Ortho Remedy is a full-service prosthetic and orthotic laboratory, specializing in amputee (prosthetics) rehabilitation and orthopedic bracing (orthotics). This includes patient evaluation and adjustment areas, a casting room, and a 12,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art laboratory.

This means that immediate, one-visit adjustments and repairs can be made right in our facility while the patient waits, so patients come in with their prosthesis, and leave with it (and not in a wheelchair or crutches, waiting for it to be repaired)! In addition, we maintain our reputation by staying abreast of current trends in prosthetic and orthotic technology through continuing education.

All devices are manufactured onsite and customized to the needs of the patient. Our staff is genuinely caring, qualified, and dedicated to assisting you in achieving your maximum rehabilitation potential. We will serve you in a competent, efficient, and sensitive manner.

We offer a “team approach” to rehabilitation, and will work with you, your physician, and physical therapist to determine the most effective prosthetic or orthotic prescription best suited to your specific needs.

Our team approach has led to the development of PACCE (Providing Amputees Comprehensive Care in their Environment), the first-of-its-kind program to offer people with amputations comprehensive rehabilitation care in their environment (To learn more, visit the PACCE Web site at http://www.pacceprogram.com).

We will go to where you are to evaluate and cast your prosthesis, whether it be the acute-care hospital, sub-acute care/rehab facility, or your home.

Routine Management

In most cases, the initial visit is for evaluation and/or measurements and casting, followed by visits for fitting and delivery. Each individual patient’s needs will determine the number of necessary visits.

Often, delivery of the uncovered prosthesis can be made to the patient at the first-fitting visit. This can be accomplished in our state-of-the-art lab in as little as 48 hours from casting and measurements.

This allows the patient to practice for extended periods in their normal environment and at their normal activity level. For new amputees, this facilitates rehabilitation whether it be out-patient or in-patient care. It also enables the practitioner to make a more accurate assessment of proper socket fitting and alignment. When final fit and gait analysis are complete, the prosthesis is then covered with foam and vinyl coating and final delivery is made.

Follow-up

After the orthotic or prosthetic device is delivered, the patient may need to return for adjustments. Of course, all adjustments made during the first 60 days after delivery are non-chargeable and all materials receive a 1-year warranty. (Some components are subject to manufacturers’ warrantees.)

We are here to serve you

Most of our patients have life-long physical challenges. All are encouraged to return at any time for a free-of-charge re-evaluation to determine if any improvements can be made to enhance performance, comfort, and/or cosmetics.
